Engel
Biography
The guitarist Niclas Engelin (then ex-In Flames, which he will join again from 2011) founded Engel in 2005 in Gothenburg (Sweden), with the aim of mixing Death Metal Mélodic and Indus/Electro sounds. After a pair of demos, the line-up stabilized in 2007 with, in addition to Engelin, Magnus Klavborn (song), Marcus Sunesson (guitar), Michael Håkansson (bass) and Daniel Moilanen (battery). The same year released the first album, Absolute Design , at SPV / Steamhammer. In 2008, Håkansson left the adventure, replaced by Steve Drennan. Threnody was recorded in the wake, but was only released in 2010 on the Season Of Mist label. A few months later, drummer Daniel Moilanen was replaced by Jimmy Olausson. The EP Songs For The Dead was released in early 2012, followed by the Blood Of Saints album. Soon after, we saw a change of singer with the arrival of Mikael Sehlin, then in 2014 Oscar Nilsson became the new drummer. It was then recorded Raven Kings, which was released at Gain Records / Sony Music. We must then wait until May 2018 to see Engel's return with his fifth opus, Abandon All Hope . Note that although Niclas Engelin is still credited as a musical director and guitarist (he composed the essentials of the album), he is no longer an integral part of the band, which currently operates in quartet.
