Biography

Once upon a time there were a few young Japanese whose dream was to release a record and perform in order to travel a bit. That year, they didn't know yet that their music was going to renew a genre: the Screamo, and propel them to the Hardcore stage. Envy is first three high school friends Tetsuya Fukagawa (Chant), Manabu Nakagawa (Basse) and Nobukata Kawai (Guitare) who decided in 1992 to embark on the adventure of creating a group. In 1995, their hopes took root, a name had to be found. It was the word "envy" at the top of a random dictionary page. Joined by Dairoku Seki (Battery) and Masahiro Tobita in 1998 and under modest Hardcore debuts, it is necessary to wait until 2001 for Envy to release his first real album, All The Footprints You've Ever Left And Fear Expecting Ahead, which appears at HG Fact and will remain engraved in memory. This masterpiece will open the doors of a European tour that will pass in France, the lucky ones who attended the Blois concert must still have the eyes and the spirits in the stars as the stage performances were above everything. In 2003, A Dead Sinking Story came into being, a second album that was wiser musically but still unscrupulous, a real outlet for an oppressive and ever more stressful life and society. In 2006, Envy released Insomniac Doze and just a few months later the ep Abyssal which marked a musical turning point, the Post-Rock component being widely developed on these records. After two splits with Jesu and Thursday in 2008, which once again open new horizons for them, Envy returns in 2010 with Recitation that continues the Post-Rock pilgrimages of the Japanese. In 2011, the Japanese released a song entitled As Serenity Calls Your Name, in tribute to the Fukushima disaster, while in 2013, their label, Temporary Residence Limited, reissued their full-length discography of more than twenty years of career in the form of a boxset entitled Invariable Will, Recuring Ebbs And Flows. Two years later and a date at the 2015 Hellfest that will remain in memory, Envy returns with Atheist's Cornea, deploying a formula a little more compact than usual, released simultaneously at Rock Action and Temporary Residence.
