Biography

Esoteric is part of the first wave of Funeral Doom Metal bands such as Thermothon, Skepticism, or Funeral. However, the commonalities with these formations end there. Indeed, the band has a totally unique sound, the results of experiments that have never been so intense in the Doom scene, to such an extent that some consider it the precursor of a new genre, the "Torture Doom", and give it the status of "ultimate Doom group". The Esoteric project was launched in 1992 in Birmingham (United Kingdom) by Greg Chandler (song), Bryan Beck (bass), Darren (drums) Stuart, Simon and Gordon Bicknell (guitars). It only takes the band one year to release a first demo, Esoteric Emotions - The Death Of Ignorance, a monumental recording of almost 1h20, which is a record for a first effort. With this disc, Esoteric hits very hard of entry, since he stands out from all that exists in Doom at the time; In eight songs, the band delivers us a tortured Doom Death, oozing hatred and drugs. This hallucinating first demo is worth the band to be signed very quickly at Aesthetic Death Records. In mid 1994, the training included the Rich Bitch Studios in Birmingham. The result will again be consistent, as the band will record six songs for a total duration of almost an hour and a half. The ensemble will be released in the form of a double CD entitled Epistemological Despondency , the group having slowed down its compositions and pushed further the sound experiments. However, Stuart and Darren left the band shortly afterwards. The first one will soon be replaced by Steve, while the second one will take more time, the search for a qualified drummer remains in vain. After only a handful of concerts in the United Kingdom, Esoteric will give in Germany his first concerts outside his bases. However, this German tour will have to be halved due to an injury by one of the guitarists. The following year, the band returned for a small tour in the United Kingdom, which was once again interrupted since all the band's equipment would be destroyed in a fire, after only two concerts. The band then decided to return to studios, once its equipment had been replaced. It was in 1996 that the band released its second double album, The Pernicious Enigma , still at Aesthetic Death Records. The result will be once again monolithic, with nine tracks for a duration close to two hours. The sound of the band evolves even more complex and intensely than before. At the end of 1997, the band decided to go on a second tour again, but the spell seemed to be stinging on the band since the guitarist Simon left the band for no apparent reason. Fortunately, Greg (chant) will take on the additional role of guitarist for the tour, and this has become definitive over time. For the anecdote, the tour will be a real success, apart from the fact that the band is still looking for a drummer. In 1999, the band released its new album, Metamorphogenesis , among the Italians of Eibond Records. This album, often considered an ep because of its duration of three quarters of hours in just three songs, shows the band even more extreme than usual, having pushed its experiments to the ends of the genre. Still without a fixed drummer, studio games were performed by Keith York. In 2004, the band lost its bassist, which delayed recording of the new album. Subconscious Dissolution Into The Continuum will finally be released at Season Of Mist's French. The band will be promoting it on stage throughout Europe with great names from the Doom ( While Even Wept , Morning Beloveth ...) for a triumphal tour. Esoteric is currently in the middle of writing his new album, and is still looking for a drummer to complete a line-up finally stabilized after several departures and arrivals recently.
