
Extol
Biography
Extol is a group of Christian Progressive Metal from Bekkestua, Norway, formed in 1994. They are known for playing a variety of different styles, including Progressive Death, sometimes more melodic, sometimes more Thrash. The band formed around the brothers Peter (Chant) and Christer Espevoll (Guitare), Eystein Holm (Basse), Ole Børud (Flute / Guitar / Song) and David Huskid (Batterie). Extol released three first songs on a split with Schamiach, Ancestor and Groms in 1996 before launching his first opus in 1998: Burial. Eystein Holm left the group and was replaced first by Tor Magne Glidje, who held the position of bassist until 2001 and then by John Robert Mjåland. The Norwegians signed with Century Media Records for Undeceived in 2000 and Synergy in 2003. In 2004 Tor Magne Glidje returned to the guitar, accompanied by Ole Halvard Sveen who followed Christer Espevoll's departure. The line-up again stable, a final album appeared in 2005, entitled The Blueprint Dives, which received a nomination for the best Metal album of 2005 at the Spellemannsprisen. In 2007, after more than ten years of career, they announced their separation and that the group would stop working on parallel projects. Extol also participated in American and European tours several times with bands like Mastodon, God Forbid and Opeth. The band sold more than 500,000 albums worldwide.
