In the late 1980s, he left Dublin for the states at the invitation of John D. Kalodner, Geffen's boss, to join the Katmandu group. King met Bridget Regan, George Schwindt, Dennis Casey, Matt Hensley (former skater), Robert Schmidt, and Nathan Maxwell in a Los Angeles bistro, the Molly's Malone, with whom he was to found Flogging Molly in 1997. The band signed the same year on Side One Dummy label at which released the first album Alive Behind The Green Door and all the band's productions until today.
