Foo Fighters
Biography
While Dave Grohl was playing behind the drums in Nirvana he recorded pieces at his house (which he was going out in K7), these pieces will lay the bases of Foo Fighters, which was born in 1995 after Kurt Cobain's death. Musically we move away from the grunge, difficult anyway to continue in a similar style after the success of Nirvana, the Foo Fighters mix rock, a punk side of pop melodies with rather "heavy" guitars. A notable change for Dave Grohl, he now holds the microphone and guitar, in 1995 the singer recorded 15 songs which he copied out of a hundred K7 which he sent to friends. The record companies will then fight to recover the prodigy rocker, Dave Grohl decides to form a band and not to leave alone in this new adventure, so he engages Nate Mendel (bassist of Sunny Day Real Estate), William Goldsmith (sunny day real estate drummer), Pat Smear guitarist of Nirvana and Germ. The first eponymous album (with the songs recorded by Grohl) was released in the summer of 1995 and is in 1996 platinum record in the United States. The band then followed the concerts, and at the end of 1996 entered the studio for the recording of The Colour And The Shape; William Goldsmith then left the band (and left Grohl recorded the drums) and was replaced by Taylor Hawkins (who played with Alanis Morissette), so the album was released in 1997 just after the start of Pat Smear replaced by Franz Stahl who will only remain for a few concerts. There Is Nothing Left To Lose , the band's third album was released in 1999, recorded in trio with Chris Shiflett (ex No Use For A Name ). In 2002 released One By One , the band's softest album followed in 2005 by a double album : In Your Honor. Skin And Bones in 2006 is a live acoustic record of the most famous combo songs and the following year released Foo Fighters' sixth album: Echoes, Silence, Patience And Grace. By Smear returned to the band early 2011 for the release in April of Wasting Light recorded by Butch Vid who had produced Nevermind in 1991. In May 2014, the band confirmed the rumours of a future album composed of eight songs recorded in eight different American cities (Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, Washington and New York) with local legends. In early August, Foo Fighters announced Sonic Highways for a worldwide release scheduled for November that year. It is, like the previous one, produced by Butch Vig and each song, in addition to being recorded in a different city, also has a specific theme. While they are again on a European tour, the attacks of 13 November 2015 in France oblige the formation to cancel the remaining dates of the latter, including the concert planned in Paris on the 16. A few days later, they published EP, on November 23, 2015, during the Holy Cecile, the festival of musicians. Originally planned to thank the fans of the band, Saint Cecilia is also dedicated to the victims of the attacks, such as a "a celebration of life through music".
