Frank Zappa
Biography
"Without Deviation from the norm, progress is not possible." One thing is for sure, Frank Zappa did not put his art into the norm, and so much the better. A true beacon in American counterculture, Zappa was both musician, composer, director, thinker... He had even considered a political career in running for the United States presidential election. His debut with his band The Mothers of Invention will mark the true beginning of a prolific career under the sign of musical research, virtuosity but also of humor and taste for satire. While his life is as interesting as his work, he has also helped to make known many exceptional musicians such as Steve Vai , Terry Bozzio or the Swedish duo Mats/Morgan , and collaborated with so many other real as well as fakes...(a father of invention?) With his irreverent attitude, his protean music, inspired by classics and rock musicians, he has marked several generations by his Dadaist and surrealist spirit, not to mention his taste for grotesque. Zappa has even directed several films including the famous 200 Motels, including Ringo Starr and Keith Moon. Finally, following the fire caused by a spectator during a concert at the Montreux Casino on Lake Geneva, the Deep Purple group, shocked or even amused by the image of a burning theatre on the lake, will write Smoke On The Water.
