Biography

The band (which initially wasn't supposed to be one, but simply a project of some tracks or even an album) was formed in 1993 by Butch Vig (Nevermind producer of Nirvana, or Siamese Dream of Smashing Pumpkins), Duke Erikson and Steve Marker, all from Wisconsin, with the idea of combining guitars and electronic effects. It was Steve Marker who by chance noticed Shirley Manson (then singer of the Angelfish band), and contacted her one day in spring 1994, the young Scottish woman quickly agreeing to take part in the adventure. In view of the success of their first title Vow , a true band spirit was born between our four acolytes and the first eponymous album was released in August 1995, soon to meet a great success with the American and British audiences. For the next two years, Garbage worked on a second album, whose first single, Push It, was released in April 1998, followed shortly after by Version 2.0, a heavily sampled album with an electronic accent, which would be very well received, particularly by the French public. Note that the group also worked on the B.O of the 19th James Bond : Le Monde Ne Suffit Pas. Beautiful Garbage , the third album of the band, was released in October 2001, and is still the most diverse album of the band. At the end of 2002 after a tour of more than a year, Garbage entered a recording period again, and after several postponements (due apparently to the emergence of tensions between the band members), Bleed Like Me, a real return to the sources with a raw sound and guitars much more forward than on the previous two efforts, ended up coming out in April 2005. But at the end of September, the group announced an indefinite break to rest and find their loved ones. Previously Garbage took part in the compilation Wesre A Happy Family (A Tribute to the Ramones ), interpreting the title I Just Wanna Have Something To Do . A best of the name "Absolute Garbage" appeared in July 2007 (in which a novel was published: Tell Me Where It Hurts). It was only in early 2011 that Garbage resurfaced announcing a new studio album. Not Your Kind Of People is finally released in May 2012 via Stunvolume.
