Biography

Colin "Col Abrahall - singing Colin "Jock" Blyth - guitar Ross Lomas - bass Scott Preece - drums
Founded in Birmingham in 1980, GBH - acronym for Grievous Bodily Harm, term of forensic medicine - is considered one of the pioneers of the UK82, the second wave of British punk rock alongside Discharge, Broken Bones, The Exploited or Varukers. Formed around Colin Abrahall (song), Colin Blyth (guitar), Ross Lomas (bass) and Andrew Williams (battery), the band called itself Charged GBH in its early days to differentiate itself from a contemporary homonymous formation (the additive will fall in 1983).
The first three years of GBH's career are quite musically intense. The band signed a deal with the Clay Records label, which allows it to release a 12 inch "Leather, Bristles, Studs & Acne", as well as two 7 inch "No Survivors" and "Sick Boy", which will be released in 1982 on the first album Leather, Bristles, No Survivors and Sickboys. That same year GBH recorded its second album City Baby's Attacked by R ats, followed by City Baby's Revenge a year later.
From 1984 GBH entered a delicate phase, redirecting its music towards a more metal side that cut it from its initial punk base. It was also at that time that the divorce with Clay Records was consumed, Midnight Madness and Beyond, the band's fourth album, released on the Rough Justice label in 1986. If No Need To Panic showed a glimmer of hope for GBH's potential, the following three albums led to Birmingham's formation in a dark period that lasted until 1992.
After the release of Church of the Truly Warped, Rough Justice refuses to renew the deal that binds him to GBH. Without a label for two years, however, the band continues to shoot showing a desire to keep it intact. Persistence ended up paying in 1993 when GBH signed with the German label We Bite. In the wake, the band released Punk Junkies , considered by most fans as his best album since 1993.
