Biography

George Thorogood was born in 1950 in Delaware. Like many other young Americans, George is an inveterate baseball fan and is also interested in music. In the 1970s, he began a semi-professional baseball career while still playing music with his band, The Destroyers. After attending a concert by John Paul Hammond , George decided to devote himself permanently to music, the guitar having become his favourite instrument. At its beginning, the band recorded only covers of artists from Blues and Rock such as John Lee Hooker , Eddie Cochran or Willie Dixon , but added a more powerful sound, thanks to a high-performance guitar, a saxophone and a heavy bass whose musical style will be greatly appreciated by bikers and truckers. In 1977, an eponymous debut album was released. The album is partly composed of covers like the powerful Madison Blues by Elmore James, Kind Hearted Woman by Robert Johnson or the mythical One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer by John Lee Hooker. The second opus, Move It On Over, released the following year, contains only covers including Who Do You Love? by Bo Diddley. In 1979, Better Than the Rest appeared in the bins. This is the band's third album, also containing only covers. These bands are those recorded at the time when George was still hesitant between his sporting or musical future. Two years later, a new cover album was recorded: More George Thorogood And The Destroyers. In 1981 George Thorogood And The Destroyers was invited, alongside Prince and The J Geils Band, to open for The Rolling Stones during the American Tour. In 1982 George appropriated the services of Ian Stewart (The Rolling Stones) and picked up all these musicians to record the essential album of their discography, Bad To The Bone. The eponymous song will become cult thanks to its very catchy and efficient rhythm, it was moreover used many times in cinema, or during competitions of mechanical sports. The band was noticed and then turned at a frantic pace across the United States, performing even 50 days in a row during the 50/50 tour through 50 different states. The albums follow each other, eleven studio albums, five live albums and some compilations have been released since 1982. The latest effort is 2120 South Michigan Ave released in 2011. There are guests such as Buddy Guy and Charlie Musselwhite. All this time, the band has gained a fairly high profile in the world of Blues.
