Biography

Justin K. Broadrick was born in 1969 in Birmingham. As an early kid, he recorded his first project at the age of 12 as Final, but it was his encounter with B.C. Green and Paul Neville in 1983 in Birmingham that allowed him to return to the world of music. From then on, everything goes on. He initially joined Fall Of Because, signing with them the first demo Extirpate and then, two years later, he was also a guitarist of Napalm Death for which he recorded the second session of the album Scum. It was precisely during a concert of his two bands that Justin met the members of Head Of David. He agreed to join them and will record with them the only album of the band, Dustbowl . But Justin has in mind to create his own project. Big fan of Killing Joke , Suicide , Stranglers and especially Throbbing Gristle , our guy seeks to create a mix between all these formations, all in front of sound like a 45 laps passed at the speed of a 33. To do this, he regains contact with B.C. Green, and reacts Fall Of Because, which, very quickly, turns into Godflesh. Ben and Justin then invest in a beat box. The first pieces did not take long to arrive. The duo records six eponymous titles distributed by Swordfish. Meanwhile, four other titles are recorded under the name Tiny Tears but, as the little record store cannot afford the risk of releasing them, Dig Parson, boss of the Earache label, impressed by their sound, offers them a deal. Street Cle aner is recorded a year later with the help of Paul Neville, a former Fall Of Because . As a result, Godflesh toured Europe with Napalm Death and then sailed for the States. Although no album was released, 1991 was a prolific year for the Birmingham duo. After Slavestate and Slateman , for many considered a turning point in the career of Godflesh , Broadrick, Green and Neville record a split with Loop pressed at 1,400 copies. A tour followed after which Paul Neville decided to stop and devote himself to his project Cable Regime . He was replaced by Robert Hampson (Loop) who participated in the recording of Cold World and Pure before joining his former Loop acolyte, Scott Dawson, in Main. Godflesh did not start working with Pure's successor until 1994. Despite some contractual problems, Broadrick and Green still managed to release Selfless and embark on a tour with Danzig and Type O Negative who did not achieve the desired success. After a European tour, Godflesh entered the studio for the recording of Song of Love And Hate exceptionally abandoning his traditional beat box for Brian Mantia, a drummer in flesh and bone who also participated in the US tour with Vision Of Disorder. However, convinced that he would never be a casual member, he gave up Primus and Broadrick's offer to replace him with Ted Parsons (Swans , Prong ). The years 1997 and 1998 are a hollow period for Godflesh. Justin is dispersed into several projects including Final and Techno Animal, Ben dedicated to Vitriol. Godflesh comes back more frantic than ever for the release of Us And Them but has to face some time after a label change. The duo leaves Earache for Music For Nations, on which Hymns is recorded, which will prove to be the ultimate album, Broadrick scuttling Godflesh in 2002. Justin Broadrick's health is being restored in Jesu, where we also find Dermott Dalton, Ted Parsons and occasionally Paul Neville. In 2009 Godflesh was announced to the general surprise on the poster of the 2010 Hellfest. In 2012, Justin Broadrick announced that he was working on a new album, which would become A World Lit Only by Fire, released in 2014, preceded by EP Decline and Fall, and the machine was relaunched. In 2017, the band announced the release of Post Self , a new album with sounds influenced by Post Punk and industrial music from the 70s and 80s.
