Gojira

Gojira is a French metal band founded in 1996 in Bayonne, Pyrénées-Atlantiques. Created under the name of Godzilla, it adopts its current name in 2001, which is none other than its transcription into rōmaji. The band is currently composed of four members: Joseph Duplantier (song and rhythm guitar), Mario Duplantier (drums), Christian Andreu (solo guitar) and Jean-Michel Labadie (bass). Since its founding, Gojira has produced five studio albums, from Terra Incognita (2001) to L'Enfant Sauvage (2012), and two live DVDs. Combined with Death Metal, Progressive Metal and even Groove Metal, Gojira stands out in the Metal scene for the ecological and spiritual sensitivity of their songs. In addition, all their texts are written in English. Having been successful among amateurs in France since the release of their first album in 2001, the band is very quickly famous in the United States, then worldwide, leading them to the biggest festivals, such as the Wacken Open Air and Hellfest and playing with major bands like Metallica, Slayer, Children of Bodom, or Lamb of God. Gojira is also the first French metal band to have made a tour in America and Europe on its own name, they have become a real heavyweight of the international Metal scene. In 2015 Gojira announced that he was working on a successor to the 2012 Wild Child. In late 2014, the Duplantiers completed the construction of their own studio in New York, Queens, where they moved in. Magma , the sixth album of the band, will be recorded and produced here at the Sliver Cord Studio, after a period of mourning following the death of the mother of the Duplantier brothers. The album finally appeared in May 2016, still at Roadrunner. After huge tours, including a memorable passage to Hellfest 2016, the Landes are looking at the future but will be delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Fortitude, seventh long, will only be released in 2021 but will benefit from extensive media coverage.
