Biography

Jan Chris De Koeijer : Song/Basse (1989-present) Frank Harthoorn : Guitar (1989-present) Boudewijn Bonebakker : Guitar (1991-present) Alex Van Schaik : Guitar (1989-1991) Ed Warby : Battery (1991-present) Marc Hoogendoorn : Battery (1989-1991) Rene Merkelbach : Keyboard (1996-1998) Gorefest is founded in 1989 under the leadership of Jan Chris and Frank, Holland (region: Zeeland) who recruit Marc Hoogendoorn on drums and Alex Van Schaik on guitar. After two demos, the band composed its first album, Mindloss , in 1991. It's a first recognition. Their Death-Metal pays tribute to the Swedish scene and the band is considered as pioneers of its kind in their country. Nuclear Blast signed them the following year, only Alex Van Schaik and Marc Hoogendoorn already left the band. The time to change drummer and guitarist with the arrival of Ed Warby (After Forever , Orphanage , Hail Of Bullets , Ayreon ...) and Boudewijn Bonebakker, Gorefest returns to studio, and gives birth to False , at the end of the same year. The success began to be felt: the album was well received in Europe, the band toured with Deicide and Atrocity and then got a place for the Dynamo Open Air in Eindhoven. In 1994, The Eindhoven Insanity reported on their performance at the festival. That same year, Erase , their third album, was even better received. Gorefest continues his ascension and comes out in the wake of an ep, Fear which announces a musical turning point. The Dutch released Soul Survivor in 1996 by engaging Rene Merkelbach on keyboards. Their Death-Metal makes room for a Power-Metal that announces the beginning of the end of the band. Chapter 13 in 1998, which continues in this direction, signs the end of the group. Indeed, Gorefest split in 1999, left behind by his fans and the extreme musical press.
Nuclear Blast doesn't stay there. Not wanting to lose its Dutch foal, the label starts negotiations in the 2000s that will prove to be paying off. The band therefore announced its reformation in 2004 to four rather than five members and then returned to the international scene in 2005 with the album La Muerte . Gorefest gives a severe punch by a return to its origins, Death, then shoots in the major European festivals: Wacken, Graspop, etc... In 2007, Gorefest released its sixth studio album Rise To Ruin, which confirms this return to sources.
