Gorgoroth
Biography
Gorgoroth (The Mordor Desert Plain in The Lord of the Rings of Tolkien) was founded in 1992 in Bergen, Norway, by Hat (song), Goat (battery) and Infernus (guitars). They then give in an aggressive and unhealthy Black Metal. The band is marked by many changes in line-up (so that Infernus is the only original member that is still part of the band with King at bass and Gaahl at singing) but we will still remember the passage of some great names of the Black Metal such as Pest ( Obtained Enslavement), Ares (Aeternus), Samoth ( Emperor ...), Daimonion ( Borknagar , Enslaved ...) or Frost ( 1349 , Satyricon , Gehenna , Keep Of Kalessin ). Their first demo, A Sorcery Writen in Blood , was released in 1993 but the band was really known the following year with the release of their first album Pentagram . They confirm in 1996 with Antichrist which allows them to play with bands such as Cradle of Filth, Dissection or Satyricon. In 1998, the band signed with Nuclear Blast and released Destroyer as well as Incipit Satan and Twilights of the Idols before changing the label again to Regain Records in 2005. The first album with Regain was released in 2006 by Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam. For the recording, Gaahl, King and Infernus were joined by Frost to the battery. For the first time, all the songs were composed by the King, but he left the band shortly afterwards. In October 2007, an internal crisis separated Gorgoroth; Infernus on the one hand, King and Gaahl on the other, the two parties want to continue with the name, in December, King and Gaahl declare that the court grants them the legal rights of the name Gorgoroth and the logo. They decided to leave their label Regain Records, which had previously supported Infernus. The formation which slowly recovers from its problems and exits Quantos Possunt ad Satanitanem Trahunt in 2009, goes back on tour and then plunges again into silence until 2015 with the release in a relative anonymity of Instinctus Bestialis, when suddenly we learn a sad news, Frank Watkins (bass, ex-Obituary) who played with Gorgoroth since 2007 dies at the age of 49 from a long illness. Definitely, nothing is simple for Norwegians.
