Gorguts
Biography
Carlo Gozzi (Basse), Stéphane Provencher (Battery), Gary Chouinard (Guitare) and Luc Lemay (Guitare / Chant) founded Gorguts in 1989 in Richmond, Quebec and released a first demo immediately. Eric Giguere then replaced Carlo on bass for the recording of a second demo in 1990. Gary was replaced by Sylvain Marcoux on guitar and Gorguts released his first album, Considered Dead , at R/C Records (formerly Roadrunner Records) in 1991, then The Erosion Of Sanity in 1993, two albums of Death Metal technique that will be a landmark in the genre, including James Murphy (Death , Obituary , Testament ) on Inoculated Life and Chris Barnes (Cannibal Corpse , Six Feet Under ) on Bodily Corrupted , Rottenatomy and Hematological Allergy . After the release of The Erosion Of Sanity, Roadrunner Records dropped the band, like many others of its Death Metal signatures at the time. Thus, one thinks of a split of the band, but Gorguts returns in 1998 with a new line-up and an even more ambitious musical orientation. Luc Lemay, the only surviving member, surrounds Steve Cloutier (Basse), Patrick Robert (Battery) and Steeve Hurdle (Guitare). Obscura was released the same year at Olympic Recordings, offering an avant-garde death metal for the least original. Daniel Mongrain replaced Steeve in 1999 and Steve MacDonald, who had been briefly in the group from 1993 to 1995, replaced Patrick. Gorguts then recorded From Wisdom To Hate in 2001, which continued to experiment on certain points, but also returned to the roots of the combo. Steve MacDonald's depression and suicide in 2002 marked the group for a long time and led to his split in 2005. Steeve Hurdle and Luc Lemay therefore devote themselves to Negativa which can be seen as a spiritual site of Gorguts. A eponymous release in 2006 before Luc reactivates Gorguts in 2008 despite Steeve's reproaches. This time the musician surrounds Colin Marston (Basse - Krallice , Behold The Arctopus ) and Kevin Hufnagel (Guitare - Vaura ) and John Longstreth (Batterie - Dying Fetus , Exhumed ). In 2012, former guitarist Steeve Hurdle died of complications related to an operation. It will take several years for the Canadian band to release Colored Sands in 2013, a very successful and demanding record that appears at Season Of Mist.
