Gotthard
Biography
A Swiss-born Hard Rock group, Gotthard was founded as Krak by Leo Leoni (guitar) and Steve Lee (chant) in 1990. Two years later, the name changes to the one we know today, while bass player Marc Lynn and drummer Hena Habegger complete the line-up. A first eponymous album was released the same year, followed by Dial Hard in 1994 and G. in 1996, both of which will reach first place in the Swiss charts and bring some fame to the band. A change was announced in 1997 with the release of the live acoustic album D-frosted and the integration of Mandy Meyer as second guitarist. Three albums followed in a more Rock/Pop register: Open in 1999, Homerun in 2001 and Human Zoo in 2003. New change in 2004 with the arrival of guitarist Freddy Scherer replacing Mandy Meyer. Lipservice, in 2005, abandoned the Pop side of previous releases and marked the return of harsher sounds. The band followed with Domino Effect (2007) and Need To Believe (2009) in the same spirit Hard Rock. In October 2010, singer Steve Lee died in a road accident in the United States. In December, the Heaven compilation was released as a tribute. Running 2011, the band announced that it would want to pursue without Steve Lee and chose Nic Maeder as its successor, with whom he would release Firebirth in 2012 and then Bang! in 2014. In early 2017, the twelfth studio album was named Silver to celebrate Gotthard's 25th anniversary.
