Biography

Grails debuted in 1999, formed by Alex Hall, Paul Spitz (guitars), Emil Amos (battery, guitar, and also in Holy Sons), Timothy Horner (violin) and William Slater (bass and keyboard), the band released two EPs (under the name Laurel Canyon). The band then signed with Neurot Recordings and took the name Grails; Paul Spitz left the band and was replaced by Zak Riles. They released two records on Neurot Recordings: Burden Of Hope in 2003, followed by Redlight a year later; The band develops an instrumental post rock with Celtic touches. Over albums the band will harden the tone and will replace Celtic tones with psyched / experimental influences see dub following the departure of their violinist. The band then recorded psyched covers and released two EPs (one with Red Sparowes ), these will be regrouped on Black Tar Prophecies, Vols. 1, 2, & 3 (the 3 being actually composite titles for the collection itself) in 2006 and marks a new start for the group. Signed at Temporary Residence the group confirms the stylistic turn in 2007 with Burning Off Impurities .
