Formed: 1996
Styles: Hard Rock Heavy Metal Traditional Doom Metal

Biography

Grand Magus formed in Stockholm in 1999 thanks to JB (chant) and Fox (bass). They quickly recorded a demo, with the help of Trisse (battery), which allowed them to appear on a compilation of Waterdragon Records, Greatest Hits Vol 1, released the following year. It was in 2001 that serious things began, first with a signature at Rise Above Records, which led to the release of a split with Spiritual Beggars (which JB later joined), and then to a first eponymous album. The record is very well received everywhere, as will its successors, Monument (2003) and Wolfs Return (2005). In 2006, Trisse left the band and was replaced by Seb. Grand Magus released on fourth album in 2008, titled Iron Will , still at Rise Above Records. A flamboyant hymne metal, it has won a huge success all over the world even though it permanently moves away from the doom roots of the group. His successor Hammer Of The North, released in 2010, confirms this evolution.
