Biography

At the base of Gravenhurst is Nick Talbot, a Harry Potter-style young man inspired by Bristol, Third Eye Foundation and Flying Saucer Attack. Encouraged by their inspiration from DIY, Talbot moved to Bristol in the mid-1990s and began to compose in his room, equipped with a few guitars and an 8 tracks.
First result of these creations, Internal Travels was released in 2002. A confidential release that does not prevent Warp Records (a record house rather known for its electro signatures) from offering the songwriter a wider audience when Flashlight Seasons was released in 2004.
Nick Talbot then climbed an additional step. While the lo-fi melodies bent two first albums to the dismal production, Black Holes in the Sand , EP released in late 2004, sounds like the meeting of Nick Drake and the shoegaze movement. Or how peaceful acoustic melodies can turn into confused larceny. This approach gave rise to the sumptuous Fire in Remote Buildings the following year. On this occasion Talbot surrounds himself with a real group that will allow him to give even more depth to his compositions.
Combining the delicacy of acoustics with the tearing wave of distortions, the group delivers pieces with drawers, emotionally rich and passionate. In 2007, the band returned to show its talent by leaving The Western Lands , new (discreet) folk-rock success at the delicate and always inspired songwriting.
