Biography

Originally formed in 1990 in Norway by Christian "X" Botteri and his brother Cristopher Botteri as well as by Terje Vik Sche "Tchort" and Anders Kobro, Green Carnation stands out from the traditional black Norwegian metal, to give in a polymorphic, progressive, dark and melancholic metal. They met soon after with singer Richart Olsen and started playing all over Norway. The band released its first demo entitled Hallucinations Of Despair which will be followed shortly after Tchort's departure for the famous Norwegian metal band Emperor, Tchhort will participate in many projects in groups like Satyricon or Carpathian Forest. Richart Olsen also decided to leave the band and the name Green Carnation was left behind for a while. The remaining 3 members: the brothers Botteri and Anders Kobro decided to form In The Woods and later released 4 albums until 1999 Tchort returns to the Green Carnation project and contacts the Botteri brothers again, they contact Alf T. Leangel (drums) and record Journey to the end of the night, a definitely very dark album, passing through the doom, psychedelic and melancholic passages, seeing the participation of multiple vocalists, an album that Tchort will dedicate entirely to his deceased daughter. Journey to the end of the night will attract the attention of metal fans when it is released, but after the recording Tchort will have to form a new line-up, after a separation that is still confused and mysterious with the other members of the band, this new line-up will include the original drummer Anders Kobro and a new singer: Kjetil Nordus. Green Carnation thus takes a second breath with this new formation and releases in 2001 the successer of Journey to the end of the night: Light of day, day of darkness , album dedicated this time to the son of Tchort as well as to the Botteri brothers and composed of a single 60-minute track recorded by some thirty musicians, including even a children's choir. The album is a real success, elected album of the month in Metal Hammer magazine twice, it opens to the band the doors of the Wacken Open Air in 2002, where it recreated in its entirety the atmosphere of the album in front of more than 8,000 fans. A few months later, the recording of the 3rd album A Blessing In Disguise commenca, produced by Tchort himself. The album was released under the French label Season Of Mist, once again experiencing a real success, acclaimed by critics and the metal press. The band started a tour in Europe as a leading poster, recorded its first dvd in Poland and began in September 2004 the recording of The Quiet Offspring in Marseille, France. The album will be released about 6 months later with a more mixed success this time but which allowed the band to tour all over Europe and North America. 2005 will also mark the creation by TChort and Kjetil Nordhus of their own label Sublife Productions. The band also recorded its first acoustic album The Acoustic Verses, released in January 2006, and the band will also see its drummer Anders Kobro replaced by Tommy Jackson. Note that Tchort intends to make in the years to come a sort of trilogy that will be called Chronicles Of Doom of which Light of Day, Day Of Darkness (their second album) would be the first one, this suggests a future album in line with it.
