Biography

Green Day , an iconic punk-rock band, began in 1989 with the formation of another band, Sweet Children , at the initiative of Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt. Both are then only 14 years old. Then, the group welcomed a third member, Al Sobrante, stationed behind the drums, and took the name Green Day. Quickly, a first EP is born in '89, 1,000 Hours, and attracts the attention of the label LookOut! Records ( Engine Down , Troubled Hubble , Ted Leo&The Pharmacists ). The same year, the trio released its first album, 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hour, followed by the replacement of Sobrante by their 'permanent' Tre Cool drummer.
1992, and the success of Kerplunk , will mark the fate of the group which attracts more and more the attention of the Majors, to finally sign at Reprise Records ( My Chemical Romance , Eric Clapton ). In 1994 Dookie came out, and our three Californians made themselves known to the general public, thanks in particular to the singles "Longview" and especially "Basket Case". Dookie will sell more than 10 million copies across the globe.
After a year of rest, Green Day returns with Nimrod, considered by many as the best album of the band, but that will not achieve the expected success, just like Insomniac. Nevertheless, a few titles, such as "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)", will still resonate for a long time. The year 2000 will see the edition of Warning , confirming a musical evolution of the band, which is not to everyone's liking, and success will still not be at the rendezvous. Green Day is not at the best of its form and is content, for a period of 4 years, with the release of a best-of, International Superhits! , and a cd of b-sides and other unpublished, S henanigans . On September 21, 2004, the provocative American Idiot and his single eponymous landed. Pamphlet anti-Bush, Opera-Rock, American Idiot tells of the initiatory journey of a fictional "Jesus Of Suburbia". "American Idiot", "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" and "Holiday" are in turn omnipresent on MTV. Green Day will even receive a Grammy Award for the "best rock album".
