Gwar
Biography
GWAR is a group of interplanetary warriors descending from aliens stranded in Antarctic (and native to the genesis of the universe). They came to earth to turn humans into sexual slaves (or massacre them). Finally, this is the official version, more unofficially GWAR (God What an Awful Racket) is a band assembled by students, musicians and dancers from Virginia Commonwealth University and was at the base a marketing experience. Disguised in monstrous costumes (in latex, maché paper) the band is essentially known for folklore and their appearance only for their music (heavy metal very special, with necessarily stupid lyrics). Their first album was released in 1988 ( Hell-o ), members (all under pseudos like Oderus Urungus, Balsac the Jaws of Death, ...) will often change during the band's life (but no matter what the characters remain the same). The group will be banished from some cities in the USA, will have many lawsuits that they will win (and will pay back the money earned to charities). In 1990 Scumdogs of the Universe was released and in 1991 America Must Be Destroyed (considered their two best albums); their look amuses and creates a buzz around the band which will cause them to be nominated to grammy (equivalent to our Music Victory) for their video Phallus in Wonderland. The band necessarily plays more on the show than its music releases many videos and clips, necessarily stupid. Their sets offer a real show (false ritual, blood projection on the audience, giant marrionettes, ...) and despite their origins and the content of the group 18 years after their formation the group still exists. After a 3 year break the band returned with a 9th album ( War Party ) in 2004, followed in 2005 by a live ( Live from Mt. Fuji )
