Biography
Travis McCoy : singing Disashi Lumumba-Kasongo : guitar Eric Roberts : bass Matt McGinley : drums
Travis McCoy and Matt McGinley founded Gym Class Heroes shortly after they met in 1997 at Geneva High School, a small town in New York State. The training is completed with the arrival of Milo Bonacci (guitar) and Ryan Geise (bass). They released their first 2 demos Hed Candy and Greasy Kid Stuff (respectively in 1999 and 2000) and gradually made a name in the area thanks to their third independent release For the Kids (end ‘01).
A few years later, they went to the top level and were preparing to record a new EP when Pete Wentz ( Fall Out Boy ) heard about them and their title "Taxi Driver" (part in which they made a story from band names from the emo scene), as well as McCoy's performance that won the Direct Effect MC Battle sponsored by MTV at that time. After an invitation in good form and some meetings, they signed with Decaydance, at the time young under label of Fueled By Ramen led by the leader of Fall Out Boy. The Papercut EP was released on 29 October and in the wake of Disashi Lumumba-Kasongo replaced Bonacci on guitar.
The EP was a significant success and it gave birth a few months later to the album The Papercut Chronicles (22 Feb. Big success, the galette quickly climbs to the tops of the charts of all countries, notably thanks to the single "Cupids Chokehold", arranged cover of Supertramp's "Breakfast in America" on which Patrick Stump (FOB) puts his voice. Eric Robert made his appearance at the post of bassist at Geise's dependencies, the tours were fast going on as the buzz spreads at all speed; The quartet made its appearance at the Warped Tour, shot with pop punk sizes and went back to the studio to record As Cruel as Schoolchildren, which was born on 25 July 2006, while the band returned to the Warped Tour. They then toured with All American Rejects but also RX Bandits in 7th. For the summer of the same year, they made some appearances in Europe (especially at the Dour Festival) and won the first part of Gwen Stefani on his tour in Oceania.
