Biography

Behind Hauschka's pseudonym was a German classical composer, Volker Bertelmann. During his musical studies, Bertelmann paid a great deal of attention to the technique of "piano prepared" (it is also the name of his most famous album, released in 2005), consisting of modifying the natural sound of a piano by placing various objects in its strings so as to evoke certain percussions. Following the steps of John Cage, considered the forerunner in this matter, Hauschka develops a personal and Sonicly varied game when he adds to his compositions other more synthetic instruments or other wind instruments. In the construction of his first albums, we find the influences of musicians like Arvo Pärt , Steve Reich or Philip Glass , for which Hauschka has a real admiration. The recognition takes shape with a signature at FatCat Records and an album sequence since 2004, which does not mean a decline in creativity. This is evidenced by his Salon des Amateurs , released in April 2011, which sees Bertelmann making an incursion into the field of house and minimal techno. A kind of natural extension of his previous work, in short.
