Biography

Bob Mould - guitar, singing Grant Hart - drums, singing Greg Norton - bass, singing So student at St.Paul's College in Minneapolis Bob Mould, from New York, meets Grant Hart and Greg Norton in the record store where he works. Very quickly the three lurons discover commonalities, including the passion for hardcore punk, and decide to set up a band. Hüsker Dü (do you remember? in Swedish), was born in 1979. Charlie Pine, keyboardist, completes the line up. He will leave the group very quickly. In 1981, Hüsker Dü recorded his first single Statues on the Reflex label, followed by the first Land Speed Records album released on New Alliance Records. The band returned to Reflex a year later for the release of the first studio album, Everything Falls Apart And More . The quality of the services attracts the attention of confirmed formations of the US punk scene such as the Dead Kennedys or Black Flag . Enthusiastic about the band, Greg Ginn, then guitarist of the latter, offers Hüsker Dü the opportunity to record on SST Records. Zen Arcade was released in 1984. The album is so successful that the label cannot keep pace with the press. Between 1984 and 1985, Hüsker Dü turned at a rate of hell and tensions between Hart and Mould began to appear. Gradually the band is looking more towards a more pop style that is translated into New Day Rising and Flip Your Wig albums. This reorientation drew Warner Bros' attention in 1986 to the great dam of fans of the band who feared alienation. But Hüsker Dü managed to conclude a contract with small onions leaving him with complete artistic control over his music. The band released on Major Candy Apple Grey and Warehouse Records. On the eve of the tour David Savoy, manager of the band, committed suicide. Hüsker Dü still honors his dates but the heart is no longer there. The tensions between Hart and Mould reached their peak at the end of the journey. Hart is asked to go elsewhere to treat his heroin addiction. The formation of Minneapolis did not survive this departure and folded shortly afterwards. Hart will then embark on a solo project and Norton will finish cooking in a Red Wing restaurant. Bob Mould's solo career will be a completely different acabit, both under his own name and Sugar's, but it's another story...
