Biography
Idles is a group of Punk / Post-Punk / Rock founded in 2009 in Bristol, England, around Joe Talbot (Chant) and Adam Devonshire (Basse) who have known each other since high school in Exeter. It will take them time to start writing songs and it is with the arrival of Mark Bowen (Guitare), Andy Stewart (Guitare) and Jon Harper (Battery) that the quintet releases a first eponymous in 2011. Jon Beavis replaces Jon Harper on the battery for the release of theep Welcome in 2012. Lee Kiernan arrives on guitar to replace Andy in 2015 and Idles releases a new ep, Meat the same year via Balley Records. But it was especially with Brutalism in 2017 that Idles revealed to the world their atypical and fresh mix of Post-Punk, Indie Rock, Post-Hardcore and Noise Rock which received a very positive critical welcome. Furthermore, Joe Talbot's mother died of a long illness while the band worked on the album and she was represented on the cover, with a sculpture by Talbot and her father. The band made the first part of The Maccabees for their farewell concerts in London and Foo Fighters for the tenth anniversary of the O2 Arena. After several appearances in European festivals, the band began working on its second album, Joy As An Act Of Resistance, which appeared at Pavier Records in 2018 and became a huge global success. In 2020 and 2021, Idles released two new albums, Ultra Mono and Crawler, while nuanced their music with other influences.
