Impetigo
Biography
A mythical group of the grind scene, Impetigo is neither more nor less than the most important group of the goregrind scene, alongside Carcass of course. Formed in 1987 by Mark Sawickis (guitar) and Stevo (Chant/bass), two university buddies addicted to horror films and tape-trading, Impetigo will quickly make talk about him with his first demo All We Need Is Cheez, showing a mix of hardcore and metal (old school of course) with already a strong personality, and especially a drummer with very original, very jazzy but all in groove, the famous Dan. After recruiting a second guitarist in Scott's person, the band released the Giallo demo, which showed him in a much more extreme light, inspired by the grind and death metal of the time. The demo allows the band to sign with the infamous Wild Rags Records label (which will scam them like any other band signed at home). The quartet is already beginning to talk about him because of his gore imagery, drawn from 70's horror films (notably Italian), and will see the cover of his upcoming album censored. The album will finally be released in 1990. Ultimo Mondo Cannibale is going to fight the chronicle with his furious madness, his disgusting and disgusting atmosphere, his impressive drummer of feeling and his singer with particular voices. The album's sales will climb, and be one of Wild Rags' top sales. This is it: Impetigo is in the legend, this is the first time that a goregrind group has such a personal style, and so far away from Carcass (at the time only direct representative of the goregrind).
After this burst, Impetigo will multiply the splits (especially with Blood) and demos, testing in particular studios for recording his next album, and will confirm his place as a big band in the underground. The band will become famous for its totally crazy performances where the singer/bassist Stevo takes the habit of vomiting on stage (!), the latter being able to vomit on order... In 92, the band will release its second album Horror Of The Zombies , in which its Autopsy influence comes out enormously. Although less crazy than its predecessor, the album will experience excellent feedback from the underground world, raising the group to cult status. It will also be the best sale of Wild Rags Records.
Impetigo will split in 1993, considering that the group became too large and preferring to stay on good results. The members of Impetigo will no longer have known projects, except Stevo who will release some demos with a doom band. In 1998, Mark, guitarist, will discover by surfing the net that Impetigo still arouses a lot of interest in the world undergournd. He will release some splits with old songs, and work on the CD reissues of the albums, first with Morbid Records, and then, assisted by Stevo, with Razorback Records. Today, Impetigo is a mythical band of the goregrind and grindcore scene, having traumatized a whole fringe of these genres with his albums. Although much less recognized than their colleagues in Carcass, Impetigo remains one of the most important groups of the genre, original and crazy, and marked by its strong personality.
