Iron Maiden
Biography
While in the late 1970s hard rock began to turn in circles, Iron Maiden , head of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM), will revive the movement by bringing speed, energy and melody. Formed in London in 1976 by bassist Steve Harris, the band began to smear the English clubs and eventually built a solid reputation. After some changes in line-up, it was with Harris on bass, Dave Murray and Dennis Stratton on guitar, Cilve Burr on drums and Paul Di'Anno on singing that the band released its first album of the same name. Although recorded in non-ideal conditions, the single Running Free was widely noticed. For his second effort, Killers , the group enjoyed better production and saw the replacement of Stratton by Adrian Smith. But it was with The Number Of The Beast and Bruce Dickinson's (formerly Samson's) appearance that the band crossed a stage: The Number Of The Beast , Run To The Hills and Hallowed Be Thy Name were real hits and Eddie's mascot was recognized by all. Piece Of Mind in 1983 will confirm Maiden's new status and will be number 3 in England. The band then underwent a new line-up change since drummer Clive Burr gave his place to Nicko McBrain, who played with Trust's French. The English followed the tours and then returned to work for what would be Powerslave. This one obviously features its set of singles (Aces High, Two Minutes To Midnight) and will be followed by a spectacular world tour that will be immortalized by the mythical Live After Death. Back from this heinous tour, the band finds itself stuck between two waters: on the one hand they managed to conquer the world and became an indisputable reference of the genre but on the other, more and more critics accuse them of tirelessly bringing out the same formula from three albums. La Vierge De Fer responded to the criticisms with two more melodic albums and used for the first time a synth: Somewhere In Time in 1986 and then 2 years later Seventh Son Of A Seventh His album concept will offer the band his second album ranked number 1 on the other side of the Channel. As usual, the band will shoot intensely to promote these two albums, which leads to a real break. Rumors of separation are increasing, especially since Dickinson offers himself a solo getaway. Que nenni: Steve Harris, the band's brain, takes things in hand and announces an album back to the sources. This is not the taste of Adrian Smith who leaves the band and is replaced by Janick Gers. No Prayer For The Dying was released in 1990 and the single Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter will bring to the combo his first single number 1. Cepedant, Dickinson began to get tired and would like to devote himself to his solo career. Nevertheless, he recorded Fear Of The Dark and made the next tour before withdrawing. Two live albums will be released simultaneously: A Real Live One focused on the band's recent singles and A Real Dead One featuring the band's more classic tracks. But Dickinson is revered by fans of the band and replacing it will not be a small deal. The auditions will follow and Blaze Bailey of the Wolfsbane group will eventually be chosen. He will record two albums with the band: X-Factor in 1995 and Virtual XI in 1998. Iron Maiden was then in the middle of the wave and bounced back in 1999, announcing the return of Bruce Dickinson to singing and Adrian Smith to guitar, the band now having three guitarists (!!!). The bet is successful: the fans rush back into the stadiums to see the band play in its classical training. Many compilations and other live ones were released by the record company, to capitalize on the new buzz surrounding Maiden. It is in the form of a sextet that the band now releases its studio albums, all well received by the press: Brave New World in 2000, Dance Of Death (in 2003) and A Matter Of Life And Death (in 2006). In 2008, in parallel with the DVD re-release of the Live After Death, the band launched a new world tour called Somewhere Back in Time World Tour. This tour mainly takes on the scenery of the famous World Slavery Tour of 1984 and the setlist is largely inspired there (return of Powerslave and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner in particular). Another particularity, an aircraft, named Ed Force One, which is piloted no less than Bruce Dickinson, is chartered by the group and the first part of the tour is the subject of a documentary, Flight 666. For the first time in Costa Rica, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, the Ed Force One also allows them to return to Australia and New Zealand. The last part of the tour ends in April 2009, in total the Somewhere Back in Time World Tour will have attracted two million spectators for 90 performances. In February 2009, Iron Maiden won the Brit Awards (British equivalent of the Wins of Music) for the best stage performance 2008. August 2010, the band released The Final Frontier , for the first time the album reached the first position of album sales in France. In the vein of A Matter of Life and Death, it is the most progressive album of their career. On the cover, Eddie changes appearance again. In 2012 released an umpteenth live album, En Vivo! (recorded in Santiago de Chile during the Final Frontier World Tour). Summer 2012, on the same principle as the Somewhere Back in Time World Tour, Iron Maiden returned to the roads with a show inspired by the Seventh Tour of a Seventh Tour. Referring to the VHS of the Birmingham concert of November 1988, the tour is called the Maiden England World Tour. At the beginning of 2015, as the band is about to announce the release of a new album, we learn that Bruce Dickinson is fighting language cancer and is on treatment. More afraid than evil, the singer was treated in time, not to mention total healing, he is much better and can again ensure the shows. At the end of June Iron Maiden finally announced the release of this new album, Books of Souls will be in the bins in September. It should be epic, since its duration is 96 minutes.
