Biography

Ithilien is a Belgian folk metal group founded in the province of Walloon Brabant in 2005. Inspired as much by the mythology of J.R.R. Tolkien (their name is taken from a Gondor province), Ithilien has a Black Metal and Death Metal base mixed with Celtic, Viking and more generally Nordic traditional music themes. Pierre Cherelle (Guitare / Chant) is surrounded by several people, but the line-up fluctuates for several years before being able to record a first ep, Tribute To The Fallen in 2011. The band crystallised around Benjamin Delbar (Basse) in 2011 and then added Jerry Winkelmans (Battery) and Olivier Bogaert (Claviers) in 2012. Finally, Geoffroy Dell In 2016, Ithilien took a different turn with the departures of Olivier and Thibault, but the arrival of Tuur Soete (Guitare) and Myrna Mens (Violon) and especially the release of their second opus, Shaping The Soul , early 2017, for a more modern turn and influences Death Metal and Metalcore. Currently, the band consists of Pierre Ithilien (guitar, bouzouki, singing), Benjamin Delbar (bass), Jerry Winkelmans (drums), Tuur Soete (guitar), Sabrina Gelin (old wheeled, nykelharpa), Hugo Bailly (cornemuseum) and Myrna Mens (violin).
