Jaga Jazzist
Biography
Jaga Jazzist is a Norwegian jazz collective created in the mid-1990s. The richness of his universe comes from the fact that each of his musicians belongs to other musical projects of a wide variety, often sharp and influential in Norway in recent years, and that his line-up constantly evolves according to the desires and availabilities of each, but always working with a staff around 10 people. The formation is however led by the three Horntveth brothers, who have been present since the beginning (when the youngest was 14 years old), and coordinating the whole.
Musically, the formation is located in the movement called Nu-Jazz (more simply electro jazz), exclusively instrumental, and develops long colorful themes with various influences, giving the ensemble a very modern appearance. The electronics side of Jaga Jazzist's music is also worthy of his signature on the renowned Ninja Tune label since his first album with an international release, A Livingroom Hush in 2002. The record actually had a real success before that, selling as many as 15,000 copies in Norway alone, released on a national d'enrevgure label. Since then, the group has chained its electrojazz outputs, keeping its basic recipe and making it vary according to the members present.
