Joe Satriani
Biography
Joe Satriani is one of those guitarists who are nicknamed Guitar Hero because of their virtuosity. Born in 1956 on Long Island, he made his first weapons at the age of 9 on a Fender Stratocaster. Jimi Hendrix's death in 1970 greatly affected him and gave him the irremediable desire to excel in his art. He soon became gifted, and taught guitar at Berkley for a brief moment, and among his students were Steve Vaï, Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Alex Skolnick (The Testament) and Larry Lalonde (Primus). After some unsuccessful experiences in the musical community ( Squares , Rubina Records label...), he released his first solo album in 1986: Not of This Earth , which made a resounding bide. We must wait until 1987 and the famous Surfing With The Alien for Joe Satriani to reveal himself to the world. Since then, he has been on board with all these albums, of which we will remember mainly The Extremeist, Time Machine and Crystal Planet. In addition to its exceptional technical level (use of taping, switch, etc.), Satriani's career is marked by a deep eclecticism since he likes to vary styles, including Rock, Jazz, Boogie, Blues... In 1997 he took everyone counter-current by releasing with Eric Caudieux a very controversial electro album: Engines of Creations. This experiment lasted only a while since Satch quickly returned to the music he was known for, and this from his next album, Strange Beautiful Music , then Is There Is Love In Space confirmed in 2004 his return to the Rock scene. In 2006, after a tour of India for the first time in his career, Joe Satriani released the album Super Colossal , which will be followed by a double live soberly titled Satriani Live! . In 2008, he released a new studio album Professor Satchafunkilus and the Musterion of Rock and another live DVD Live In Paris: I Just Wanna Rock.It was at this time that he founded the Chickenfoot band with two former members of Van Halen, Sammy Hagar on singing and Mickaël Anthony on bass, and the drummer of Red Hot Chile Peppers, Chad Smith. For the moment, this side-project has only released one album, eponymous, in 2009. In 2008 still, Joe Satriani continues the Coldplay band, accusing them of having plagiarized his song If I Could Fly (from the album Is There Love In Space?) without permission for their song Viva la Vida (the guitar melody at Satriani and the singing melody at Coldplay are a bit similar). Coldplay argued that Satriani's song lacked originality and should not even be protected by copyright. It is not clear exactly how this story ended, as a transactional agreement has apparently been signed between the parties. Later, Cat Stevens (alias Yusuf Islam) said Coldplay had actually copied his song Foreigner Suite, not that of Satriani... In 2010, the Satch will participate in the Experience Hendrix Tribute Tour, and will lend his voice (with the other members of Chickenfoot) to the animated drawing Aqua Teen Hunger Force. At the end of the year, he released his thirteenth studio album, Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards, which, after the Chickenfoot episode, marks a kind of return to the sources for him, with a more prog album, with jazz-rock influences, and which can recall Surfing With The Alien. 2012 will be marked by the release of a 3D live DVD/Blu-ray : Satchurated: Live in Montreal . And in May 2013 released his latest studio album, Unstoppable Momentum. :: The G3 ::
The G3 is a three-part " Guitar Hero" tour and was born in 1996 on the initiative of Joe Satriani. Each guitarist plays some of his tracks, then the three meet together on stage at the end of the concert to jamm on various tracks. The first edition included Joe Satriani, his friend and former student Steve Vaï, and Eric Johnson. The following year went on with Steve Vaï and Adrian Legg in the States, and with Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Robert Fripp in Europe. The 1998 G3 took place only in Europe, including Michael Schenker and Uli Jon Roth. 2000 marked the reformation of the original G3 line-up for a special concert in Malaysia. John Petrucci ( Dream Theater) joined Vai and Satriani in 2001 for what is considered the best G3 to date! The following edition in 2003 was less appreciated because of the presence of Yngwie Malsmsteen, an exceptional guitarist from a technical point of view, but o how cold in his game. This G3 nevertheless led to a CD/DVD release: Rockin' in the Free World. John Petrucci again joined Satriani and Vaï for the 2005 tour, which was also recorded in Tokyo. Two G3 tours took place in 2006: Joe Satriani, John Petrucci and Eric Johnson (South America) and Joe Satriani, John Petrucci and Steve Vai (Australia). Joe Satriani and John Petrucci took over the cover in 2007, this time accompanied by Paul Gilbert . The latest G3 tours took place in 2012 with Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Steve Morse for Europe, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Steve Lukather for Australia and New Zealand, and Joe Satriani, John Petrucci and Steve Morse for South America.
