John Vanderslice
Biography
Raised among the Kinks, Bob Dylan , Led Zeppelin or Genesis , John Vanderslice first formed a first band under the name MK Ultra which folded in 1999. It is then that the native of Florida begins his second career which will make him known to the public, under his own name. His first album, Mass Suicide Occult Figures , was released in 2000. Clearly pop-oriented, John Vanderslice's music really takes off only with his two successors, Time Travel Is Lonely and Life And Death of An American Fourtracker , hailed for the finesse of their folk pop melodies and the accuracy of lyrics often filled with references ( William Blake , Robert Lowell , or the tragedy of 9/11 and their political consequences for example). Vanderslice then began to tour in the US and Europe. Trying more and more things at the level of sound and melodies, he continues his recordings at a quiet pace, the last ending of which is Romanian Names, released in 2009.
In parallel with his work as a composer, John Vanderslice set up a recording studio in San Francisco, Tiny Telephone where he did not hesitate to take home Death Cab for Cutie (John Vanderslice also played the first part of the band for the European tour of Plans), Spoon (he is co-producer of their Gimme Fiction) or Okkervil River.
