Biography
Born in Los Angeles in the early 1980s, Kamasi Washington had an instrument in his hands. After getting introduced to the drums and the piano at an early age, it is by trying his father's saxophone at age twelve that he really chooses his path. He will then perfect his talent from schools to schools to pierce as a session musician for artists of various backgrounds such as Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Lauryn Hill or Snoop Dogg. 2015 marks a turning point in his career with, among other things, his participation in Kendrick Lamar's album To Pimp A Butterfly and the release of his first solo album The Epic on Brainfeeder, the label of Flying Lotus. A work of nearly 3 hours, unanimously hailed by critics.
