Kamelot
Biography
Kamelot was founded in 1991 in Tampa, Florida by two old friends, Thomas Youngblood and Richard Warner, respectively guitarist and drummer. The Americans play a melodic power metal inspired by the European scene. It's also with a German label, Noise Record, which they signed in 1994. Their first 2 albums, Eternity and Dominion, were released quickly and in 1997, Kamelot gained a reputation in the melodic power microcosm. That same year, Richard Warner left the formation he helped create, followed quickly by the singer of the time. The production of the third album ( Siege Perilous ) had already begun when Casey Grillo came to install behind the futs and Roy Khan on the microphone, not to leave Kamelot since that day for this first. The Americans left to defend Siege Perilous in Europe, a continent on which their success was and remains the strongest. Albums and tours (especially European) continued at a pace that remained as strong until 2001.
In 2003, Kamelot released Epica , a concept album based on the first part of the work Faust , by Goethe . The position of keyboardist, previously unstable and yet very present in the band's music, finds a definitive occupant in 2005 with Oliver Palotai, just before the release of the second part of Faust's adaptation, The Black Halo. On this album, Shagrath ( Dimmu Borgir , Chrome Division ) and Simone Simons ( Epica ) come to make several discreet appearances to play characters of the work. During the long world tour that followed, Kamelot regularly shared the scene with Epica (a band whose name is a nod to Kamelot's album) to play their first games and intervene during some songs. Live album One Cold Winters Night is recorded during this period.
From their beginnings, Kamelot's music has been gradually enriched with heavy, progressive or symphonic elements. In 2007, Ghost Opera released and continues to incorporate several new elements, making the result a little less direct and galloping than before. Ghost Opera released the following year as Ghost Opera: The Second Coming, with bonus titles and live recordings. In 2010, the band released Poetry For The Poisoned , on which will appear in guest Simone Simons, the singer of Epica . 2010 also marks the beginning of a health problem for singer Roy Khan, whose departure will be formalized in April 2011. In June 2011, the band announced the arrival of Tommy Karevik ( Seventh Wonder ) as a singer. Kamelot will soon return to the studios to record their tenth album, Silverthorn , released on 26 October 2012.
