Biography

Kataklysm was formed in 1991 in Montreal, Canada, thanks to Maurizio Iacono (Basse), Jean-François Dagenais (Guitare), Ariel Saied (Battery), Stéphane Côté (Guitare) and Sylvain Houde (Chant). The beginnings of the formations are banal. Indeed Kataklysm lost his second guitarist, Stéphane the following year and also changed drummer twice in two years with a brief passage by Mark Marino in 1992 and the arrival of Max Duhamel in 1993. At the time, the band was considered one of the fastest and most chaotic Death Metal bands and made its first weapons by recording three demos and two eps until 1994. The Canadians were noticed by Nuclear Blast Records in 1993 that released theep The Mystical Gate Of Reincarnation, but also their first album Sorcery in 1995 that allowed them to gain a growing reputation. Very quickly Kataklysm chained with Temple Of Knowledge (Kataklysm Part III) with this time Nick Miller behind the drums. But in 1998, Kataklysm made the most important change in his career with the departure of singer Sylvain Houde. This is how Maurizio recovers the microphone giving his place to bass for the new come Stéphane Barbe, while Max returns behind the drums. The combo then comes out Victims Of This Fallen World, rather musically different than their past style, but The Prophecy (Stigmata Of The Immaculate) returns to their early Death Metal roots by incorporating Thrash Metal elements. The next, Epic (The Poetry Of War) demonstrates a more melodic approach to their Death Metal but does not convince fans so much. In 2003, they delivered the Shadows&Dust, which by its melodic approach, but also brutal, remains one of Kataklysm's greatest successes. Max, suffering from injuries, is temporarily replaced by Martin Maurais, also known for his very fast style of gravity blast and that is how Serenity In Fire released in 2004 in line with the previous album. Max returned in 2006 for the composition of In The Arms Of Devastation before going on tour alongside Unarth , Dimmu Borgir , Behemoth and Chimaira in 2007 and delivering Prevail in 2008. Their tenth studio album arrived in 2010 entitled Heaven's Venom , but it was not unanimous. Max left Kataklysm again before the 2013 recording of Waiting For The End To Come and Olivier Beaudoin (Neuraxis ) was credited with the battery. The latter officially joined Kataklysm in 2014 while a twelfth opus was released in 2015, still at Nuclear Blast Records: Of Ghosts And Gods.
