Katatonia
Biography
Katatonia was trained in Stockholm, Sweden in 1991 at the initiative of guitarist Anders "Blackheim" Nyström and singer/drummer Jonas "Lord Seth" Renkse. With bassist Guilllaume "Israphael" The Huche, present until 1995, they form a combo evolving in a doom-death style, rich in themes like death, suicide and depression, and record a first demo, Jhva Elohim Meth, then in 1992 the EP Jhva Elohim Meth...The Revival under the leadership of Dan Swanö. The latter, a recurring character in the band's history, also produced their first two albums Dance Of December Souls in 1993, then the ep For Funerals To Come in 1995, as well as Brave Murder Day in 1996, on which Fred Norman appeared as second guitarist and Mikael Akerfeldt by Opeth who ensured all the death vocals. The band split for a while before opting for a whole new approach, giving in a rock with high emotional and depressive content. Even the band logo changes. Thus released the album Discouraged Ones, first opus of Katatonia's second life. Then in 1999 with the reinforcement of Mattias Norrman on bass, they recorded Tonight's Decision , probably the best album of this new career, which also benefits from Dan Swanö's drum game. Subsequently, Daniel Liljekvist seized the drums and the band recorded two new Last Fair Deal Gone Down records in 2001 and Viva Emptinesss in 2003. Two very good compilations tracing the two careers of the group have been released in recent years. Brave Yester Days dated 2004 takes over the doom path and The Black Sessions in 2005 covers the atmospheric rock orientation. It should be noted that Nyström and Renkse also appear in Bloodbath , all-star band death Swedish with notably Dan Swanö, Mikael Akerfeldt or Peter Tägtgren. The members of Katatonia also left taking away the deceased Diabolical Masquerade , an experimental Black Metal band by Anders "Blakkheim" Nyström (with guest Swanö, once again), and October Tide , melodic doom with death accents, where we find Fred Norrman and Jonas Renkse. Katatonia , a renowned Swedish Metal figure, returns in 2006 with The Great Cold Distance , a more violent album than usual then in 2009 with Night Is The New Day . In 2012 Katatonia announced her entry into the studio to begin recording her next opus, Dead End Kings. In early 2013, the band launched a crowdfunding campaign to fund the recording of their new production, Dethroned and Uncrowned , which will consist of the completely revisited Dead End Kings songs. The album was released in September 2013. On April 17, 2014, Daniel Liljekvist announced his departure, as he could no longer invest in the group given his financial situation. Katatonia will be present for the 2016 Hellfest. For the little story, Katatonia regularly floods her Facebook page with photos of her fans with tattoos inspired by the formations; logos, album covers etc ...
