Biography

Formed by the brothers Matthewson, Jesse (Guitare, Chant) and Shane (Battery), and Darryl Laxdal (Basse), Ken Mode is a Noise/hardcore band formed in Canada in September 1999. The combo is named after Kill Everyone Now, the acronym for KEN Mode. A series of demos was released from 1999 to 2003, when their first Mongrel album was released at Escape Artist Records. After a few concerts with American Heritage , Mastodon , Pelican , Daughters , Buried Inside , ..., Darryl Laxdal left the combo in 2004 and re-entered him the following year to finish the recording of Reprisal , which ran into the bins in 2006. Laxdal decided to leave again, replaced by Drew Johnston (Electro Quarterstaff), who had already played with the other members in Hide Your Daughters. A new tour with Pelican and Daughters in Canada began in October, and this time Jahmeel Russell (Kittens , Projektor ) played the role of bassist. Ken Mode then embarked on the design of Mennonite, which was born in July 2008, changing (again) bassist for the occasion, this time with Chad Tremblay. The combo is signed by Profound Lore Records for Venerable , recorded in 2010 with Kurt Ballou ( Converge ), and in the bins during 2011. Armed with a new bassist in the person of Thérèse Lanz, Ken Mode embarks on a tour with Gaza, Rosetta, Buried Inside or Clinging To The Trees Of A Forest Fire. An umpteenth change of bassist later (decidedly, it's a tradition), here again the brothers Matthewson + Andrew LaCourt in 2013 with Entrench , produced this time by Matt Bayles (Isis , Pearl Jam , Botch , Minus The Bear , etc), released by Season Of Mist. 2015 saw the release of the sixth Canadian album, Success , produced this time by Steve Albini (Nirvana , The Breeders , The Jesus Lizard , Neurosis , Shellac ) and a new bassist, Scott Hamilton. A year later KEN mode released the EP Nerve , then the seventh long format Loved in 2018, this time with Andrew Schneider at the controllers and for once the same bassist as on the previous album, in addition to some guests such as Kathryn Kerr (saxophone), Drew Johnston (bass on Fractures In Adults ) and Adam Dyson (chorus).
