Biography
Born Alix Mathurin at Abymes in Guadeloupe on 28 December 1977, Kery James is considered one of the safe values of French rap, especially conscious rap. Member of the collective Mafia K'1 Fry , he started from the age of 13 in the group Ideal Junior with his friends rapper Harry and dancers Teddy and Selim (now Jessy Money, Teddy Corona and Selim respectively of 9.4 in the collective Mafia K的1 Fry). In 1992 a first maxi was released entitled La Vie Est Brutale . The same year, the band was joined by DJ Mehdi. Despite the departures of Harry and Selim, Ideal Junior became Ideal J released the album Le Combat Continue in 1998, carried by the title Hardcore . Even today, this album remains a must for French rap. The death of his friend Las Montana will cause him to convert to Islam and change his speech. His first solo album Si C'était à Refaire was released in 2001. This record is a real turning point because of its moralist message and musical choices including strictly percussion and xylophone. In addition it benefits from the presence of guests like Nubians or Salif Keita. In March 2002, Kery James was able to fill the Olympia. The next album, My Truth , released in 2005, did not meet the same success. Kery is looking for himself, leaving the Mafia K'1 Fry before returning, and struggles to find a new label to distribute it. In 2008 A l'Ombre du Show Business was finally released, marked by the collaboration with Charles Aznavour on the eponymous track, but also by the songs Banlieusards and Je m'écris (in trio with Zaho and Grand Corps Malade). The album becomes a platinum disc. A year later, he released his fourth album, Réel , which also became a platinum record. Kery James announces in Letter to My Audience, his scheduled withdrawal. On 18 December 2009, he gave a concert at the Zenith in Paris, with many guests (Diam's , Kool Shen , Tunisiano de Sniper , Oxmo Puccino , Youssoupha , Kayna Samet , Mafia K'1 Fry ...) before withdrawing from French rap for a few years. 2012 marks his return with a CD/DVD entitled 92.2012 , tracing the artist's twenty years of career. The disc includes the unedited Letter to the Republic , a song as striking as it is striking. The album Last MC was released in 2013 by the singles 94 C'est le Barça et Le Mystère Féminin (in duo with Imany ). In January 2016, the title Live or Die Together was released following the November 13 attacks. This track is on the album Mouhamad Alix , released in September 2016 with the songs Racailles et Musique Nègre . He is also the author of the Autobiography Banlieussards et Fier de Lettres published in April 2016. 2017 should see him perform on the stage of the Rond-Point theatre for the play A Vif . It is an eloquence contest that he has composed and should also become a film. Two lawyers face it around the question " Is the state the only one responsible for the current situation of the suburbs in France?". Kery James advocates "no" to better combat "victim" attitudes.
