Biography

In 1993 James "Munky" Shaffer (guitar), Brian "Head" Welch (guitar), Reginald "Fieldy Snuts" Arvizu (bass) and David Silveria (battery), just released an album with their band LAPD , meet Jonathan Davis, singer of Sexart and student in forensic medicine. The band then asked Davis to join their band, which he accepted, LAPD then became Korn , a year later the band signed with Epic to release his first eponymous album. Korn with his first album offers a heavy metal, due to its sound, complexity is not the master word here (as it has been for many years); Korn marries the sound of a hard metal with much heavier sounds (in particular with a bass sound 5 seismic strings) approaching groups like Rage Against The Machine or Downset . ; Korn signs what one can consider as one of the very first albums of neo metal, genre that will popularize a few years later. This first album does not explode in the charts but sells regularly and becomes a golden record, the band then accumulates the first prestigious parts: Megadeth, Ozzy Osbourne, Marilyn Manson, ...
In 1996 the band returned with an album always in the same vein: Life Is Peachy ; The lyrics are still black and Davis exorcises his demons there (sexually abused during his youth, rejected by his classmates, misunderstood by his parents, ...); this album has a much more resounding success and is in third place in the American "pop" charts, worn notably by the single A.D.I.D.A.S. . In 1998 Bakersfield's 5 recorded their biggest commercial success: Follow The Leader, the music here has evolved enormously, mixing rap and metal, and calls on many guests, the album then explodes in the charts. The band then starts a tour (which will become annual) The Family Values Tour with bands like Limp Bizkit, Orgy, Rammstein, ...
In 1999 the band returned with Issues , still different from the previous opus he showed a more melodic Korn which would displease the fans bounded by the first hours. The band then played intensively, Silveria will be replaced for a time by Mike Bordin ( Faith No More) due to health problems. The band then took a little break, Fieldy took the opportunity to record a solo album while Davis participated in Queen Of The Damned's soundtrack. In 2001 it was with Untouchables that the band came back, Korn made a big contribution to melodies and effects; Davis uses a recording technique normally reserved for classic albums; The music becomes more melodic and the atmospheres are more worked.
Take A Look In The Miror released in 2003 and marks a return to the band's sources, less complex and more direct this album produced by the band itself will be the last with the original line up. After the release of a best of 2004, Head decided to leave the band in 2005, preferring his passion for god, he completely denied his Korn years. This in no way engulfs the motivation of the band that records See You On The Other Side, once again Korn takes the fans against the foot by offering very melodic songs, and the appearance of electro/industrial pop passages (a auction to Davis). The band continues at 4, on stage a guitarist placed in the shadow of the scene accompanies them. More than 10 years of careers and a multitude of bands having embarked on the furrow dug by Korn, impossible to deny its importance on the current music. Without denying its basics, the band evolves its music and moves more and more away from the style of which it was the forerunner, the brand of a large band? After a long empty period for the band (despite some risk taking such as the album The Path Of Totality which offers a mix Metal / Dubstep) the band sees Head's return. The resulting album The Paradigm Shift shows a band that comes back to a heavier sound, and the lives of the band become interesting again.
