Kurt Vile
Biography
It is not known whether it was the first banjo he received at the age of 14 or the unfathomable mane he wears that plunged Kurt Vile into the Indie world of the 80s, Pavement and Smog in the lead. Still, the Philadelphia kid was early when it came to scraping the six strings. After a first tape, recorded at 17 in his room and self-produced, Kurt Vile met Adam Granduciel with whom he formed the psychedelic The War On Drugs in 2005. It takes three years for the band to release its first album (Wagonwheel Blues, 2008). At the same time, Kurt Vile released his first real solo album, Constant Hitmaker, and left The War On Drugs, to focus on his own releases. Granduciel accompanied his friend on his tours with the backing band The Violators until 2011. If Kurt Vile's first album had this cra-cra trend of self-productions, Childish Prodigy , his second album and the first one with Matador, is more clean. The label also allows Kurt to shoot with Dinosaur Jr, Fucked Up or Thurston Moore. However, notoriety will be won with Smoke Ring For My Halo (2011), composed of about ten twilight rides, mostly acoustically written. Wakin On A Pretty Daze, released in 2013, carries even further the talent of Kurt Vile's songwriter, notably recalling the ghosts of Bob Dylan and Neil Young. This is his brightest album to date. In 2015, he returned with B'lieve I'm Goin Down before releasing in 2017 a joint album with Australian Courtney Barnett, Lotta Sea Lice. In 2018, he followed with Bottle It In.
