Biography

Madder mortem is a Norwegian progressive metal band formed in 1993 under the name Mystery tribe by Agnete (Chant) and BP M. Kirkevaag (Guitare), Christian Ruud (Guitare) and Boye Nyberg (Basse).
Quickly, the band released a first demo Days In Sorrow. In January 1997, after a long waiting period, a new demo appeared, Misty Sleep, with Sigurd Nilsen on drums (recruited in 1996), this time called Madder Mortem. This followed a signature with the label Misanthropy Records (founded in 1993 by Tiziana Stupia whose primary goal was to record Burzum's albums). Mercury , the first real Norwegian album, was released in February 1999. He received a good reception but unfortunately their label was dissolved by its founder, leaving the band without a record label. In 1999, in order to continue their education, Christian Ruud (who will collaborate again with his former companions by performing several of their future artworks), Boye Nyberg and Sigurd Nilsen left the band. Very quickly Agnete and his brother found new musicians: Eirik Ulvo Langnes (Guitare), Mads Solås (Battery) and Paul Mozart Bjørke (Basse) all three friends of the band. At the beginning of 2000 a demo was recorded in order to be presented to the label Century Media (entered into contact with the band some time earlier) which, seduced by the band's music, offered him a contract. This demo also marks a turning point on Madder Mortem's musical plan, which will move towards a heavier and denser sound. A year later All Flesh is grass released the second album, he received as the first a good welcome from critics and opened to the group the doors of a European tour with Tristania, Vintersorg and Rotting Christ. As soon as he returned, the combo started writing again and as early as February 2002 entered the studio again to record a new opus (to be released in October). Darker than his predecessors, Deadlands was their first creation to appear in the United States in February 2003. And since good news never comes alone, Mikael Åkerfeldt, seduced by Norwegian music, offers them the opportunity to make the first part of Opeth on a six-week European tour, followed by a Norwegian tour opening The Kovenant and an invitation to a festival in Mexico City. Paul Mozart Bjørke decides once he returns from this South American journey to devote himself more to his son and ends his collaboration with Madder Mortem . Musical differences ensued, causing the departure of Eirik Ulvo Langnes. The selection of new members will again be directed towards relatives: Odd Eivind Ebbesen (Guitare), who had briefly collaborated with Mystery tribe and BPM in a group named Chopworm , and Tormod Langøien Moseng (Basse), who had also been part of various joint projects with BPM and Mads Solås. After a long period of silence devoted to writing, the band returned at the beginning of 2006 with Desiderata , a relatively unclassifiable effort with a clear and powerful production embellished with rhythms tortured at a significantly faster tempo . During the summer and late 2008 the band focused on the creation of its 5th studio album, Eight Ways , which will be released in May of the following year. Madder Mortem's strong musical identity is still there but this time "jazz" elements are incorporated. Production and mixing were recorded by BP M. Kirkevaag himself.
