Biography

Massacra is one of the pioneer groups of the French Death / Thrash scene in the same way as Loudblast, Mercyless, or Agressor. Moreover, it is the training which will best export outside our borders, having a particular success in Germany, while its competitors, apart from Loudblast, will have a more national reputation. Everything Started around 1987 in the Paris region, Massacra formed around Jean-Marc Tristani (guitar), Fred "Death" Duval (song / guitar) and Pascal Jorgensen (bass). The trio was quickly joined by drummer Chris Palengat and recorded his first demos: Legion Of Torture in 1987, Final Holocaust (1988), and Nearer From Death (also in 1988). Very influenced by the American and German scene Massacra sounds Thrash enough at that time before incorporating Death elements on their first album, Final Holocaut, whose title will be censored to finally become an eponymous album. Despite a slightly weak production, the French feel a lot of talent and a strong personality. If the opus is well received by the European press, in France it is much more mixed, the relations tend between Massacra and the hexagonal critics, it is the beginning of an animosity that will last until the end. In 1991 released the second album, Enjoy The Violence , he will open the doors of a tour with Benediction and Candlemass , the adventure is launched for Massacra , which started in 1993 with a third production : Signs Of The Decline . Even more violent the topics discussed speak of genocide, murder, destruction of all kinds. This achievement marks an important turning point in the life of the group since Massacra will totally change style and once again attract the lightnings of French critics. In 1995 Sick came out which is very oriented Groove / Thrash. The stylistic direction taken by the French surprises everyone and the fans of the first hour leave the band. This change of style was confirmed in 1995 with the release of Humanize Human, which is unfortunately their last work. In 1997, Fred Duval died of cancer at the age of 29. His death as fast as tragic rings the end of his career for Massacra, who decidedly did not have a story like the others. The original albums traded at a gold price in the used market, Century Media Records smells good and reissues Final Holocaut , Enjoy The Violence and Signs Of The Decline in CD and vinyl formats in 2014. Meanwhile, also released a compilation of their demos: Day Of The Massacra in 2013. While many formations have made come-backs, Massacra has refused completely until today.
