Biography

Originally from Pennsylvania Matthew Ryan is an American folk/alternative country composer/songwriter. His first steps in the world of music were made with The Caustics in 1994, despite the interest of some majors, the band would split up without recording an album. After this separation he formed The Fisher Kings and it was at this time that the first pieces of his solo record were written. He then signed at A&M ( Soundgarden, Therapy?, ...) because he had seen the label logo on a record by The Blue Nile. His first album, May Day, was released in 1997 and the critics of the time compared him to Bruce Spingsteen or Tom Waits. In 2000 he released his album, Eat Autumn Grin , on Interscope Records ( Nine Inch Nails , Primus , ...), but leaves the label a month later, the album is obviously not supported by the record company which did not find in Ryan music that could please the public. Matthen Ryan returns to the inde and will continue his recording either via small independent labels or by selling CD-Rs (Disent from the Living Room and Hopeless to Hopeful ) on his website. It is also on the European continent thanks to One Little Indian Records ( Skunk Anansie , Sigur Ros , Bjork , ...). He formed, during the time of an album, Strays Don't Sleep with Neilson Hubbard and regained media attention. Ryan returned to his solo discography and was marked by personal events (loss of a close friend, 30-year imprisonment of his brother) and published in 2006 the depressive From a Late Night Highrise. Always prolific he returned with his 11th release Matthew Ryan Vs The Silver State in 2008.
