Me First And The Gimme Gimmes
Biography
The idea to form this group of recaps of artists from the 60-70-80s (mainly) came from Spike Slawson (singer in Me First and bassist / singer in Swingin' Utters). He thus gathered around him (in 1996) distinguished artists from the melodic punk rock scene of the 90s: Fat Mike (bass and also singer of NOFX), Joey Cape on guitar (and incidentally the voice of Lagwagon), Chris Shiflett (ex- No Use For A Name and current Foo Fighters + Jackson) on the second guitar as well as Dave Raun (drummer of Lagwagon) to complete the whole. All these musicians were part of a group in the Fat Wreck Chords catalogue, so it was logical for the band to release its first cd (as well as the following) on the label. This is how Have A Ball is born in '97 after a few demos and 7"/singles. Due to the busy news of the other members with their respective (and priority) groups, the First Me will do only a handful of concerts on annual dates of the Vans Warped Tour or Hawaii. When they have a little time, they focus on the preparation of a new disc that releases every 2 years (Are A Drag in '99, Blowin') In the Wind in '01 and Take A Break in '03). The first live "intimist" and festive Ruin Jonny's Bar Mitzvah was released in 2004 before the quintet attacked the South and West American with Love Their Country in October '06.
