Biography

Melechesh , formed from the two Hebrew words Founded in 1993 in Jerusalem by the charismatic leader Melechesh Ashmedi (Chant, Guitar, Sitar, Claviers, Percussions), the group develops an atypical universe focused on Mesopotamian, Sumerian and occult themes, whether in terms of lyrics or music. The musician surrounded Moloch (Guitare, Saz, Bouzouki, Percussions, Song) by Lord Curse (Battery, Percussions), Thamuz (Bass) and Cimeries (Claviers) who released a first demo in 1995 named As Jerusalem Burns as well as the following year'sep The Siege Of Lachish with Uusur replacing Thamuz while Ashmedi resumed keyboards following the departure of Cimeries. The authorities in Jerusalem are beginning to take an interest in the group and are accusing it of occult activities, including an article in a newspaper that distorts certain facts, but the prosecution ends up being abandoned. Melechesh continues his journey and releases the album As Jerusalem Burns... Al'Intisar in 1996, but personal and professional reasons forced the members of the group to leave Israel. Moloch arrived in France for political philosophy studies, Ashmedi moved to the Netherlands and Lord Curse stayed for a while in Jerusalem to finally continue his art studies in the United States, pushing the group to recruit a new drummer, Proscriptor McGovern (Absu) and bassist Al Hazred. The band struggled to recover, but eventually released two albums in 2001 and 2003 at Osmose Productions, Djinn and Sphynx, dealing with Mesopotamian and Sumerian mythology with more depth than in the past. In 2005 Xul replaced Proscriptor behind the drums. Under this new line-up Melechesh releases Emissaries , the band's masterpiece, hailed by the press and fans. With four albums to its credit, the band is finally beginning to emerge and is becoming increasingly noticed by the public thanks to warm stage performances and a music rich in colours. This is how the formation signs at Nuclear Blast Records for the release of The Epigenies in 2010 which also receives a good reception. 2013 is a pivotal year for Melechesh since the Xul and especially Moloch from the beginning left the band. Lord Curse returned behind the drums, and Scorpios (Acherontas , Crimson Moon ) held the position of bassist. Nevertheless, Moloch, increasingly occupied by his work as a university professor in Jerusalem, returns for the composition of a new album, Enki , which appeared in 2015, still at Nuclear Blast Records.
