Metal Urbain
Biography
"Clode Panik leans, and a guy jumps to try to catch him by the hair. Because he doesn't have one, it doesn't work and the guy picks up. Zip Zinc on his side takes a microphone foot and he jumps into the audience with... The guys in the first row (...) turn around and start to latter in every direction, Rikky Darling with his guitar turned on is ready to light the first one that approaches the stage, this is the first concert, general bassoon ..." (Excerpt from the interview of Eric Debris by Arno Rudeboy in Nyark nyark !, Zones/FZM, 2007, p. 14.). And this is how Metal Urban will make its entrance to the punk pantheon, one night in December 1976, after only three small songs painfully played against an audience composed of some future punks friends of the band and especially hippies completely ahuris by these young with short hair and straight pants, violent and provocative.
Composed of a singer, two guitars, a synth and a rhythm box, Urban Metal stands out directly at the time, becoming the precursors of punk movement like Sex Pistols and Clash. Their music includes this electro side due to the synths and the rhythm box (which will be found at Bérurier Noir) accompanied by highly saturated guitars. They develop a radical, provocative and anarchist attitude and texts. Curiously, it is not in France that the group is really recognized but in England, thanks in particular to the Rough Trade label. Their concerts are shared between the two countries, as well as the 45 laps they will release, containing their flagship titles "Panik", "Hysterie connective", "Crève slut" or "Lady Coca-Cola". In December 1978, singer Clode Panik left the band, disgusted by the record companies and the so-called rock press. An album project was also topical at the time but the case never materialized.
Several compilations will follow, until the band makes its return in 2003, around Eric Débris (synthes, singing) and dermann Schwartz (guitar). In 2006 will release their only real album, poetically titled J-shit in your vomit , produced by the legendary Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys , claiming to be always a big fan of Urban Metal , which shows the impact that the latter also had on the Atlantic.
