Minor Threat
Biography
Minor Threat was born in the early 1980s when four high school friends decided to create a punk band in their good old town in Washington. The band is composed of Ian Mc Kaye singing, Lyle Preslar guitar, Brian Baker bass and finally Jeff Nelson drums. Ian, their charismatic leader then composes very committed songs, bringing a real philosophy of life, the straight-edge. The primary reasoning of this philosophy is not to lose contact with the realities of life by any means, so this includes a perfect hygiene of life: no alcohol, no drugs, no sex without feelings, vegetarianism. The song "Straight-edge" defines this philosophy well and the punk population of the time immediately found itself in this message, applying to the letter the principles defined in the Minor Threat songs. Phenomena, then movement that Ian McKaye didn't really want. It is also perhaps because of this pressure that the group did not last long, in fact two years later, the splint group leaving behind it an indelible mark in the punk scene. We no longer include groups inspired by Minor Threat , or even groups claiming the Straight-Edge trend (X or sXe). After the group split, Ian Mc Kaye formed Fugazi , a post punk band now mythical; Brian Baker created him Dag Nasty, then later went to Bad Religion. Ian is also at the origin of the label Dischord , which allows him to first release the records of Minor Threat and Fugazi , then in a second the records of the punk bands of Washington (including the excellent and recognized Government Issues ). The entire work of Minor Threat was reissued on a single disc in 1988: Complete Discography.
