Biography

Formed in 1987 following the successive splits of Exterminator and Minas Morgul, Morgoth was one of the first German Death Metal bands and probably the most renowned. The band formed at the beginning of Harald Busse (Guitare), Marc Grewe (Basse / Chant), Rüdiger Hennecke (Batterie) and Carsten Otterbach (Guitare) Playing a heavy and greasy Death Metal in line with American bands such as Death or Obituary, the band released a demo very quickly in 1988 before being spotted by Century Media Records and following two eps, Resurrection Absurd and The Eternal Fall in 1989 and 1990. The following year, Morgoth recruited Sebastian Swart (Basse), leaving Marc Grewe with the place for singing, for Cursed's entry, which was a landmark in the genre. The Germans gradually set their own path by incorporating Indus sounds on Odium in 1993, considered their most successful opus. The following year they recorded Feel Sorry For The Fanatic, the result of a logical but radical evolution as it is no longer at all a matter of Death Metal but of a hybrid style very strongly influenced by Killing Joke. The album was released only two years later, after which the band split up in 1998. Morgoth reformed in 2010 retaining original line-up Harald (Guitare), Marc Grewe (Chant) and Sebastian now held the position of second guitarist. They are then recruited for the rhythmic section Sotirios Kelekidis (Basse), Marc Reign (Battery - ex-Destruction). The group announces a tour of European festivals celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the release of the mythical Cursed. A live release even in 2012 named Cursed To Live, but Marc Grewe left the band in 2014 just before recording the new album. The band then appealed to Karsten Jäger and released Ungod in 2015, still at Century Media Records, in a Death Metal vein of modern advantage.
