Muse
Biography
A trio from Devon in England, Muse quickly established himself as one of the safe values of current English rock.
It was in January 1996, on school benches, that Matthew Bellamy (Chanter/Guitarist/Pianist), Dominic Howard (Batter) and Christopher Wolstenholme (Bassist) formed the band (first named Rocket Baby Dolls). They released under a small English label (Dangerous Records ) their first EP Muse in March 1998, followed in January 1999 by Muscle Museum EP . The group thus draws the attention of Dennis Smith (owner of Sawmills studios in Cornwall), who will partner with producer Safta Jaffrey to create a production house for Muse: Taste Media. The events followed quickly, Muse won several contracts throughout the world (Naïve in France, Motor in Germany, Mushroom in England, Maverick in the United States, ...) and recorded what would be their first album: Showbiz (produced by John Leckie, who worked on Radiohead's The Bends). The latter will be released on 7 September 1999 in France, and on 4 October 1999 in the rest of the world (this privilege is explained by the fact that we, French, were the first country to welcome them more than warmly; They will then keep a special affection for our country).
The gear is running, nothing can stop the Muse phenomenon. The success is immediate, the critics throw themselves on these three English aged barely 20 years on average, already comparing them to great such as Jeff Buckley, Radiohead or other Nirvana. The band then began a huge tour (about 200 concerts) where they will make the first part of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pavement, Skunk Anansie, Foo Fighters or Bush. This marathon will end at the end of summer 2000, and it is in mid-September that the band enters the studio to start recording their second opus with producer Dave Botrill ( Tool, deUS, ...). It will finally come out that 4 tracks : New Born , Plug In Baby , Bliss and Darkshines (the latter had to leave because of obligations with Tool ). Muse toured again until the end of November, and after a short break, resumed recording of the album with John Leckie in January 2001. The recording ends in April, the month from which Muse starts a European tour that starts with 5 dates in England with the Cooper Temple Clause, then Europe with JJ72. No time to stop, they start a European tour with Feeder in early May, and finish their promotional tour in England. Finally, June 18, 2001 released their second album: Origin Of Symmetry .
Success is always on track: the criticism is unanimous, the fans are satisfied. Muse realizes her dream. After the summer festivals then began a new tour for the band from October 2001, which will end in early December. During this will be recorded the two Parisian dates of 28 and 29 October, which will later form the dvd/cd Hullabaloo . It is also for the latter that Muse will withdraw in the mixing studio until February 2002, explaining that they wanted to be directly involved in the design of the DVD (son, image, different angles of views, ...). The DVD will be released on 1 July 2002.
On 5 April 2002, Muse (re) starts a European tour, but this time with only one date per country (Eurockéennes 2002 for France), which ends on 24 August 2002 at the Reading Festival.
After a few weeks of rest, they go back to the studio with Rich Costey (Rage Against The Machine , Franz Ferdinand , The Mars Volta , Bloc Party , Fiona Apple , ...), this time for a long time: it's radio silence until July 14, 2003, when the first excerpt of their new album: Stockholm Syndrome is available for download. From there, the band will have no respite: 6 private and free concerts across Europe for the promotion of the album (including Le Trabendo in France) in September, release of their second single Time Is Running Out that will literally blow them up in the charts, all this before the release of their third opus on September 22, 2004: Absolution . The band acquires an enormous reputation, which will be confirmed with a tour that will last for more than one year: Absolution 2003 Tour (completed in December 2003) with Cave in or Elbow in the first part, toured in Australia in January 2004 for the Big Day Out Festival, in Japan in February 2004, European tour (one might even say French) in March 2004 with Future King Of Spain in the first part, toured in the United States in April/May 2004 for the promo of the album, beginning of the festivals in June 2004, the Curiosa Tour of The Cure, with The Strokes and Thursday in particular in July/August 2004 (with dates of festivals all over Europe), reissued by Absolution for Australia, returned to Australia in September, then to the United States until December (with Secret Machines, The Evening, The Zutons or The Exit in the first part), and finally the two final dates of the gigantic Absolution tour: on 19 and 20 December 2004 in Earls Court, England (with The Zutons, Soulwax and Secret Machines in the first part). In 2005, new projects emerged: Muse toured the United States in the MTV-U Campus Invasion Tour and participated in Live 8 in Paris. They will start from the summer to design their fourth album with Rich Costey once again, which will take shape between Miraval studio in southern France, New York and Milan. To keep fans waiting, a dvd, Absolution Tour, is released in December, and traces the huge tour they have toured in the last two years. 2006 marks the great return of the band, which will first be made by the simultaneous announcement of their fourth album, Black Holes And Revelations , scheduled for 3 July 2006 (in France), and of the first single for Europe, Supermassive Black Hole, in the bins on 12 June (that of the United States, being Knights Of Cydonia); and finally by their first live appearance in more than a year, as part of the Radio 1 Big Weekend Festival.
