Biography

The story of My Bloody Valentine begins in Dublin (Ireland). Colm O In 1983, Kevin Shields decided to set up his own band to which he joined, together with Dave Conway (guitar/chant) and his then girlfriend, a certain Tina (claviers). It then opened a period of great instability for the formation, until Conway – an inveterate globe-trotter – managed to book a concert in Holland in 1984, a country in which they would set up several months. On the occasion of this concert, the name of My Bloody Valentine will be retained. After moving to London, the Irish separated from Conway's girlfriend and decided to set up a full-time bass player in Debbie Googe. Now based on a solid line-up, the group recorded a number of d的eps - a format particularly appreciated throughout its career - between 85 and 87. My Bloody Valentine then followed the concerts, but Conway went too because of too fragile health. Shields takes over the torch of the song alongside a newly recruited Bilinda Butcher (guitar/song) for what will constitute the definitive line-up. Something happens at that time. Their last eps are starting to make them talk, especially to the unbeatable radio host John Peel. My Bloody Valentine finally feels ready for the exercise of the first album, and will therefore give birth to Isn An album that is not without striking the minds as the critic will even go so far as to say that My Bloody Valentine has just given birth to Shoegazing: a Noise-Rock so dense/charged that live performances force the musicians to fix their effects pedals, and therefore their shoes. The underground spheres are literally conquered, but it was in 1991 that the real consecration came with their second album Loveless. The following year, My Bloody Valentine signed on Major Island Records and decided to return to the studio. A period that Kevin Shields, the group's thinking head, lives like a real nightmare as he is devoured every time by perfectionism. The months go by, the bands are desperately virgin/unsatisfied, so much so that they get fired purely and simply from a label preferring to bet everything on his then small mancunian foals: Oasis. Shields will later reveal that the Island Records executives decided to break the contract after having advanced to them nearly half a million pounds sterling for the production of a third album that never came. My Bloody Valentine literally implodes for this. Debbie Googe joins Snowpony, while Colm O Shields will remain very discreet afterwards, contributing occasionally to the work of Dinosaur Jr or Primal Scream . Only Sofia Coppola manages to get him out of his musical autism by entrusting him with the realization of the Lost In Translation BO in 2004. Thus, rumours are on the way to a possible reformation of My Bloody Valentine, but nothing concrete emerges until the very beginning of 2007 when, during an interview, Kevin Shields states that a third album will indeed see the light of day. After several concerts across the globe and long years of waiting, we must wait until February 2013 for the one to come.
